The pool is pretty cool and is always packed (especially as temperatures tend to stay around the mid 90’s (mid 30’s in celcius) now. The baby pool (which we tend to stay around, obviously!) is really nice with fountains etc, and its not deep at all so the twins are pretty safe and down there most evenings.
Not quite Baywatch ...
Hot Dogs!!
The next day was Mother’s Day in the US, we didn’t do anything really special but it was nice to actually HAVE a Mothers Day, as I didn’t get a proper UK one this year! I had a lie in and got taken out for dinner that night to Brick Oven – a nice Italian restaurant.
The following Friday night we went to Tims surprise birthday party. Geoff and I were instrumental in making sure it was a surprise – or rather Geoff was. In order to get Tim out of the house, Goreti and I got Geoff to take him to tennis! I suggested going for a drink but Geoff was worried he wouldn’t be able to keep him occupied for long enough. So they played tennis then had a couple of beers. Time at our end was ticking on and everyone was getting a little bit anxious for the birthday boy to turn up, until eventually I got a call from Geoff to say Tim was finally on his way (he’d decided he wanted a another beer hence being late!), so we all crowded near the door and …. he came in the back!!! Ha ha! Anyway, it was a really good night with lots of cocktails being made and everyone had a lot of fun.
I didn't quite get to the cake in time.....
Anyone who knows me well, will know I have always wanted to try Yoga, and on the Monday night Goreti (who is also a beginner!) and I went to Full Moon Yoga. It was really cool, a free class on a grassy verge overlooking downtown Austin while the sun set. It was also open to people at all stages of yoga so I didn’t feel too out of place, but I really enjoyed it and will go back next month (obviously, its only on once a month – the night of the full moon) and look for classes near me.
On the Wednesday I boarded a plane to fly home to England for the week. It was unfortunate that my friend had come to stay in Austin for a week over the week I was away. However, when I got back Selina was still here after numerous problems with flights. She ended up staying here for another week, which meant she was here for her birthday! So her birthday weekend started on Friday night when she and I went down 6th street, got very drunk, and made lots of new … er … friends?! Well, we at least met some interesting people and also learnt the art of fooseball.
Her actual birthday was the Monday though and Geoff and I took her to Dave and Busters, which is basically an amusement arcade – aimed at mostly adults - with a bar and a restaurant. After scoffing huge burgers and armed with alcohol we hit the arcade which has everything ranging from retro Space Invaders and Ms Pacman, to dance mats and virtual reality shoot em ups. We started on Daytona USA (which I won!) and then went on a similar game with motorbikes (which I also won!). Then I guess Geoff was feeling less than manly so he went home to relieve the baby sitter leaving Selina and I giggling as we threw all our money into a 10p style machine which chucked out loads of tickets. We ended up with armloads but instead of cashing them in for cheap tat we decided to save them for another time, and get something worth having!
From there we went to, yes, you guessed it, 6th street!! We met up with a guy that had accosted us on Friday night, and he took us to some new places we hadn’t been to yet. If you can prove it’s your birthday then a lot of the bars on 6th street do free birthday shots, so when Mish joined us we got Sel as many as we could. She got drunk very quickly!
