The Oasis

Last Saturday (12th July) was mine and Geoff’s 5-year wedding anniversary. So to celebrate we had the kids stay over at a friend’s for the night and went to The Oasis, a gorgeous restaurant overlooking Lake Travis. It’s an incredibly touristy place, and was really busy. We had to wait an hour for a table, during which they told us to wait in the Starlight Club, which is above the restaurant. We didn’t mind waiting though, as the views over Lake Travis were spectacular, and watching the sunset with a frozen margarita in hand is hardly hardship!

We could also see the massive 'McMansions' where the rich and famous live overlooking the lake. But in spite of casually star spotting I didn’t see anyone there that night! :-)

The place itself was pretty impressive and you can understand why it’s so popular, there were levels upon levels of decking, and its all been recently as it burnt down a few years back. The food was a bit of a Tex Mex mix, and I can’t say I particularly like spicy food, but we ordered fajita’s for two (how romantic!) and they were not too spicy at all and actually really tasty. Will definetely be going back – perhaps on a less cloudy day so that the sunset is nicer!

Mmmm margarita.....

Oh, and in typical Keeping Austin Weird style there was amodel of a UFO outside near the car park. You could even sit in it if the mood took you …
